Unusual Signs of Diabetes You Shouldn’t Ignore

Diabetes affects millions of people in the US, with a significant number of cases going undiagnosed. While there are common signs of diabetes, such as increased thirst and frequent urination, there are also some lesser-known symptoms that should not be ignored. In this article, we will explore these unusual signs of diabetes and why they are important to recognize.

1. Darker Skin On The Neck

One unexpected sign of diabetes is the development of dark patches on the neck, armpits, elbows, and knees. These patches, often mistaken for skin disease, are actually a result of skin pigmentation issues associated with high blood sugar levels. This condition, known as acanthosis, is characterized by thick and velvety patches of skin that may itch. However, it can be reversed through lifestyle changes such as adopting a healthy diet, engaging in regular exercise, and controlling blood sugar levels.

2. Dizziness

Lightheadedness or dizziness can be a symptom of various health conditions, including diabetes. When blood sugar levels rise, the body tries to eliminate excess glucose through increased urination. However, this process can lead to reduced fluid levels, resulting in dizziness as the brain struggles to function properly.
